Contemporary circus organisation Circa has today been awarded National Touring Status by the Australia Council for the Arts, greatly enhancing its ability to bring joy and delight to a diverse range of metropolitan and regional communities over the next three years.

This announcement makes it possible for Circa to engage with more Australian audiences than ever before, particularly in remote and regional communities, bringing them the same quality of performance experiences that Circa delivers to 1,000s of spectators in London, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Montreal and many other places around the world.

“In order to realise our mission to create circus that moves the heart, the mind and the soul, we are committed to providing experiences which are both artistically rich and broadly accessible; that walk the perilous tight wire between uncompromising vision and efficient delivery; that play major venues and tiny country halls; that train emerging professional artists and absolute beginners,” said Circa’s Artistic Director Yaron Lifschitz.

“We are incredibly honoured to have this opportunity. Our deepest thanks and respects go to our presenting partners and stakeholders who make Circa’s magic possible.”

Thanks in large part to the travel subsidy funding granted under the Playing Australia National Touring program, between 2015 and 2017 Circa will spend almost a whole year in total on the road in Australia; amazing audiences, delivering skills workshops and masterclasses and developing new creations with interstate partners.

In April 2014 Circa was proud to embark upon the biggest Australian tour in the company’s ten year history. Over an eight month period, Circa is touring through five states and territories, performing 65shows in 32 cities and towns. Internationally, Circa continues an intensive touring program that consistently helps grow Australian’s strong international reputation for excellence in performing arts.
