Winner – Best Circus/Burlesque Sydney Fringe Festival 2012

Leave your common sense at the door and set aside everything you thought you knew about gravity.

Enter the world of LUMINOUS from 14 Feb – 2 March at La Petite Grande, GLUTTONY, where black-light body art and circus collide to tell neon-lit stories, create magic and form impossible illusions.

Come experience a wondrous multidisciplinary spectacle where hand-painted performers bring their bodies-as-canvases to life. Created and directed by Jessica Watson Miller, Australia’s champion body paint artist, LUMINOUS is Australia’s first blacklight bodypaint circus show, with over two hours work going into each night’s completely unique costumes.

‘Black-light bodypainting is about using the darkness to trick the mind into seeing fantastic images and shapes,’ said Watson Miller. ‘The paint glows in reaction to the UV, so it’s an experience that cannot be truly replicated in photos.’

Watson Miller’s style is inspired by UV pioneer Wolf Reicherter, as well as world-standard bodypainters Yolanda Bartram and Scott Fray.

The speed of the show has challenged Watson Miller to experiment with her technique. With pre-performance painting taking up to two hours, and one performer literally painted live in front of the audience, LUMINOUS is sure to be a visual spectacle.

Jessica Watson Miller is an internationally recognised bodypainter who in 2011 was named Australian champion in professional bodypainting and ranked 10th at the World Bodypainting Festival in Austria. She has taught UV bodypainting at the Australian Body Art Awards and has bodypainted for product launches, TV commercials and live events. Watson MIller started the body art and performance company Art Kinetica in 2010 in order to create shows that fuse these two unique artforms.

If you have a taste for the sensational and a healthy disregard for the impossible, head to Gluttony this February and experience the best trip you’ll ever have.
