Surrounded by shadows, a man, imprisoned and alone, is haunted by thoughts of what’s to come. Slowly, he begins to see that his is a torture beyond what he can imagine. Unseen, his captors leave him to pull himself apart with fear.

Written for a cast of five, this new adaptation from UK-based director Matt Ryan re-casts Edgar Allen Poe’s short story as an ensemble piece. By re-telling the story  through dance , physical theatre and circus arts, The Pit and the Pendulum brings to life Poe’s vivid examination of the blurred line between psychological and psychical suffering  in a new and dynamic way.

'Matt Ryan's stage is literally  a playground... performers are free and easy with the original text, but create something quite magnificent to fill the gaps.' (A Younger Theatre)
