National Youth Circus Day

When:
Sunday, November 13, 2011

Wanna read about our recent National Youth Circus Day? Then click here to head to the news page...

ACAPTA launched our inaugural National Youth Circus Day project in 2007 at Westside Circus in Melbourne.

The aim of the day was to celebrate young people's achievements and participation in the circus arts throughout Australia and to pay homage to Reg Bolton's (1945 - 2006) life and work as a social circus pioneer. Reg promoted circus to all people but he especially focused on sharing his wit and wisdom with young people throughout the world!

'We should consider Circus as the basis of a reformed curriculum for physical development.

Those of us active in teaching Circus Skills to young people already have an understanding of the benefits ... strength, flexibility, speed and reaction are some of the elements of any program of physical development.  But add to these the qualities of fun, and measurable progress, and it is clearly time to consider seriously what Circus training offers young people'

Reg Bolton (Circus as Education. Australasian Drama Studies. Vol 35)

In 2011 we are celebrating our fifth National Circus Day with a program that invites the community to come along enjoy the diversity, talents and skills of our young circus artists.

Half High Circus have planned an anarchic, crazy and unpredictable infiltration of the Viva La Gong festival, with circus moments popping up everywhere.  From the random appearance of a family of handstand walkers stalking across the back of the band stage mid-set, to a mad table-sliding act that erupts out of a quiet picnic in the chill-out zone, to jumping stilters that inexplicably dash across a hill in the background, our performance at Viva La Gong promises to be mad, original, and packed with a surprise around every corner......
