When:
Thursday, March 8, 2012 (All day) - Saturday, March 10, 2012 (All day)

A premiere seaon presented by The 8068 Project

Abandoned theme parks, forgotten malls and cities; giant structures built to house the glory of man's innovation and invention, left to rot. Classic carnival characters, theme park icons, and mayors of abandoned cities left homeless, wandering the world, trying to remember where they come from and find a new home.

For as long as she can remember, Cera has been obsessed with abandoned theme parks, early 1900's carnival midways, the former sites of state fairs, forgotten malls and cities; giant structures built to house the glory of man's innovation and invention, then left to be taken over by birds, bugs, and bones. Ghost Town starts with the premise that classic carnival characters, theme park icons, and the mayors and dignitaries of abandoned cities are now homeless and wandering the world, trying to remember where they come from and find a new home.

Directed and choreographed by Cera Byer (San Francisco, CA), the members of The 8068 Project are devising and rehearsing Ghost Town via skype and video from across Australia and abroad, and will meet in person for the first time for an intensive rehearsal period the week before their first performance. With a variety of backgrounds ranging from bellydance, contemporary and hip hop, to circus, acting and physical theatre, The 8068 Project have created a unique fusion of movement styles in order to tell this story of loss and abandonment.

Performed in Adelaide’s Myer Centre, beneath the abandoned Dazzleland theme park, this dance theater exploration is set to a moving backdrop of photos and videos of abandoned theme parks, shopping centers, and cities from all over the world.

Limited places are also available in a three hour modern fusion dance workshop with Cera Byer, and those who aren’t quite as comfortable with moving are invited to sit in on an open rehearsal.
