'Circus WOW' wows the VIva La Gong Festival!
Circus WOW is proud to have had such a busy VIVA festival... in their 10th year. Things are not always plain sailing in the circus world, including community circus, and including Womens Community Circus!! so it is very exciting when new, collaborative and creative work continues to defy the odds by tumbling out and up into existence.
Circus WOW in Wollongong just had a wild and wonderful week during Wollongong's annual Arts Festival called VIva La Gong! Firstly they opened a pop up exhibition on 10 Years of Circus WOW 2001 - 2011 which ran for 2 weeks. On the actual Festival Day ( Sat 12th Nov) They also had 15 ingeniously costumed rovers in the Viva Parade, including some on stilts. These amazing "LAMPSHADE" costumes ( yes, each incorporated real, recycled lampshades in innovative and surprising ways! ) were designed and constructed by the resourceful and imaginative Libby Bloxham. Libby and other WOWers led the Viva lantern parade later the same night in stilting "Angel" costumes. On the same night Wendy Regan led a number of circus fire juggling practitioners in Circus WOW's Fire Show at 7pm. Then Wendy ran down to the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre to add her tissu skills into WOW's ensemble performance: "The Nancies" (who had just finished the 7.30pm show) for the 9.30pm second show - this was part of Treasures of the Vault Cabaret 2011, which was curated, as usual by Anne Louise Rentell. " The Nancies" combined two tissue performers with glow poi juggling, adagio and clowning, all to a Nancy Sinatra soundtrack.
Phew! Quite a Viva for WOW!
