Circus West

About

Paul Woodhead, the founding Director started circus West in 1991 as an in-school program at Dubbo West Public School. Over many years it provided programs during lunch times, sport, PE and for performance. The program expanded to after-school classes in 1994 to include student from all Dubbo schools. In 2001 Circus west won National and State awards for its public education production 'Storm Warning'. This recognition led to the Director being awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 2003 to study similar programs in the USA and UK.

Circus West extended its influence across the entire Western NSW Region through the Circus Arts Consultancy in 2005 - 2007. With the Company's support, programs were started in some 65+ schools with many still running at a healthy pace. The Company moved to Delroy Campus of Dubbo College in 2008 when the Director was appointed there at the end of the consultancy.

2011 marks the 20th year for Circus West and they are still catering for students from all Dubbo schools and supporting programs across the Region. There will be a reunion of ex-performers and possible renegade show on 1st October 2011.

David Walsh is the assistant trainer at Circus West.

Circus West works within the Department of Education and is self funded through donations for gigs. All trainers are voluntary.
