POW Circus is a small community circus for women over 40. New members are invited to join the weekly acrobalance class (working with other women to create body balances). No experience is necessary. POW performs in small gigs around the themes of ageing, older women, health, and diversity.

POW Circus is 22. Last year POW, performed at Park Lounge II for Midsumma, and was part of the cabaret in “White Night, Circus Circus”.

Participants in POW’s classes do not need previous acrobalance experience but do need to be enthusiastic about developing these skills in a supportive group of women.

The trainer has regard for any modifications that need to be made in training for ‘older bodies’ and training is tailored to suit the skill levels of participants.

POW’s objectives are to:

•    challenge ageism and ageist assumptions

•    promote wellbeing and fitness for women over 40 of any sexual orientation, ethnicity, class, experience and physical ability

•    advance the status of women by embracing feminist perspectives and fostering lesbian visibility

•    to have fun and work safely

Trainer: Dorota Scally

POW offers the first class for free so that any woman over 40 interested in ‘checking POW out’ can participate in a training session to help her decide if it is right for her.
